Pre-G8/G20 Summit Conferences in Toronto

On 16-19 June 2010 Munk School of Global Affairs of the University of Toronto hosted three pre-G8/G20 summit conferences. Marina Larionova, Head of the International Programms of the National Training Foundation, participated in the conferences as a speaker.

The Conference “Governing Global Development: The Role of the G8 in Health, Nutrition and Food” (16-17 June 2010) was devoted to the following topics: maternal and child health, food and nutrition security, agriculture, health and water, childhood obesity, chronic diseases, research and innovation through Business-Government-NGO partnership, strengthening the G8 and G20 contributions. The conference was opened by the Bev Oda, Minister of International Cooperation of Canada.

The participants of the Conference “Governing the Global Economy: the Role of the G20” (17-18 June 2010) discussed the problems of the global economy growth recovery, financial regulations and international financial institutions reform. Senator Mike Duffy spoke to the participants of the conference on June 17 and Peter Van Loan, Minister of International Trade of Canada had the presentation on June 18.

The main topics of the Conference “Governing Global Security: the Role of Summit Diplomacy” (18-19 June 2010) were: weapons of annihilation of extermination of mass destruction non-proliferation, situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan vulnerable states and terrorism. The conference was opened by the speech of Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada.
